GPS Personal Locator Beacon For Vacation Travel

Planning For An Emergency Is The Best Way

Look, no one likes to talk about being involved in an emergency situation. But, whether you want to talk about it or not, they happen.  And it could be your turn when you walk out of your door today.  What preparations have you made for an eventuality that impacts your life like these can?

This is especially important to think about when it comes time to go on vacation.  Consider that you are out of your home area and in a place where you know very few people, let alone where emergency facilities and help are located. This places you in a very compromised position.

4 Simple Travel Safety Tips

The way to overcome emergencies that arise (or at least minimize the effects) is to have a good idea of what you will do. So, here are some tips you can take with you when you leave for vacation.

  1. Scout Where You are Going.  If you are going to travel to an unknown place, look it over closely on a map or on the Internet to view the layout of the land.  It might not give you all you need to know, but it will be a good start.  Take note of the locations of hospitals, police stations and the like. Even though a 911 call should summon them to you, it never hurts to know where they are in relation to your location.
  2. Have a Backup Plan. This works for both emergencies and non-emergencies.  What if you cannot stay in the place that you made reservations for? How will you get past that?  How will you provide for yourself and family if you should have a vehicle accident and the car cannot be driven? Your insurance company should cover the rental, but do you know that for sure? Make sure that you take your insurance agents phone number with you on the trip.
  3. Update and Backup. If you are traveling by car and have a GPS navigation device, make sure you update the internal maps that they have in memory.  That will provide you with the latest streets, roads and routes. Also, take a big map with you, too.  Too many people have depended solely upon their GPS navigation device only to find that it told them to go in a direction that was unsafe at the time. Also, be willing to stop and ask for clarifications on directions. Local people know the area better than you and can provide some great input on which route you should be taking.
  4. Take a GPS Tracking Device. Many new tracking units are portable and can be hidden in clothing and even luggage.  It’s a smart idea to have one with you when you travel.
